We are excited to invite you to our annual Community Hero Day, which takes place on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Broadmoor School, 8090 Broadmoor Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060. Our goal is that this event will facilitate positive non-crisis interactions between first responders and individuals, with the expectation that these relationships will lead to stronger communication, trust, and better outcomes during crisis. This event will bring together local fire departments, law enforcement, and individuals served by Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood in a fun, educational, and interactive setting. Featuring emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and police cars, along with hands-on activities, you will learn more about the important work our local heroes do! The Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities' Employment Navigation team is excited to announce a new collaboration--Workforce Connection! Our mission is to connect inclusive employers with the professionals, organizations, and advocates who support job seekers with developmental disabilities. We strive to build partnerships that create meaningful, sustainable employment opportunities for all. We will be hosting meetings from 8:30-9:30 AM, with open networking taking place from 9:30-10:00 AM on May 6, August 5, and November 25, 2026. Meetings will be held at the Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood (Building C), located at 8121 Deepwood Boulevard in Mentor, Ohio. If you cannot attend in person you can join remotely via Zoom. Join us for our next Youth Empowerment Group meeting. Topics that may be covered include self-advocacy, independence, effective communication, and community participation. Participants must be Lake County students ages 14-22 years who are eligible for LCBDD services. Deepwood Idol highlights the abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities and will take place on August 15, 2026 on stage at the Mentor Amphitheater, located at 8600 Munson Road in Mentor, Ohio during Mentor Cityfest. Watch for updates on social media @DeepwoodLakeDD or visit www.LakeBDD.org.

Fruit Farm Music Festival is taking place on August 22, 2026 from 5 - 8:00 PM at Eddy's Fruit Farm located at 12079 Cave Road in Chesterland, Ohio 44026.Attend to enjoy a night of food, music, and community! In addition, there will be raffles and a silent auction. This event is hosted by the Aktion Club of Geauga, the Aktion Club of Lake County and Hearts for Music. Aktion Clubs are service branches of Kiwanis for adults who have developmental disabilities and members will be at the event helping out to give back to their community organizations who support them. Hearts for Music is a non-profit that creates specialized musical opportunities for individuals with disabilities, so expect great music and high energy! Tickets are $25 and all proceeds go directly toward helping local community organizations.
