Judge Larry Allen – President
Experience or reason for being on the board: Growing up in a household with a developmentally disabled brother, allowed me to experience the ups and downs of such a family life. As a Board member, it permits me to interact with families similarly situated and, hopefully, enhance the lives such individuals and families so they and the public can appreciate and enjoy the individuality of each family member.
Employment: Retired after serving 18 years as Judge of the Willoughby Municipal Court.
Involvement or volunteer activities with or in other Lake County Committees or agencies: Currently enjoy membership in a number of international and local associations for the improvement of access to justice for our society; also serve as a member of Breckenridge Village Board.
Tom Hunter – Vice President
Experience or reason for being on the board: Served 8 years in Deepwood Industries.
Employment: Former Special Ed. Teacher for 22 years at Madison Public Schools.
Involvement or volunteer activities with or in other Lake County Committees or agencies: Volunteer at Lake Metro Park and Stewart Lodge.
Experience or reason why I would like to be on the Board: In the past, I have served on the Deepwood Board of Developmental Disabilities for 12 years. I would like to continue to advocate for all disabled individuals in Lake County served by the Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood so that they may be empowered to have the best quality of life possible and are given opportunities to work and enrich their lives and of those around them. Deepwood is a special place for special people and I would like to keep the community informed of its wonderful programs that help individuals achieve all that they can be and help others realize that all individuals can be successful in life.
Previous Employment: I was a Mentor Public Schools teacher and a special education teacher for thirty five years. It has been one of the highlights of my life to see my students succeed in school as well as in their lives.
Community Involvement: I am currently a Trustee of the Mentor Public Library and have been a Laketran Board member. I am also involved in the Christ Child Society, which helps needy children, the Lake County Historical Society and The Civil War Roundtable.
Experience or reason for being on the board: I am very impressed with the Lake County Board of DD/Deepw and all of the people who work for the various programs at Broadmoor and Deepwood. I want to be a part of what they do to assure the best for all individuals with special needs.
Employment: After 34 years, I retired as an Intervention Specialist and now work in the School of Education at Lake Erie College helping to prepare the teachers of tomorrow..
Involvement or volunteer activities with or in other Lake County Committees or agencies: Deepwood Foundation Board Member, Western Reserve Junior Service League Board Member, International Women’s Air and Space Museum Board Member, Delta Kappa Gamma Member and volunter for various non-profit agencies.
Experience or reason for being on the board: As a parent of a child with a developmental disability I think it is important to be active in my community and to support an organization that supports my family.
Employment: I am a Client Manager for Cigna Global Health Benefits
