Health & Welfare Alert: Adverse Childhood Experiences & Trauma-Informed Care

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities recently released an important Health & Welfare Alert: Adverse Childhood Experiences & Trauma-Informed Care Alert #74-07-26  

This alert provides critical information to caregivers about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and we encourage you to read it in it’s entirety. As an advocate for people with developmental disabilities, it is important to understand ACEs. ACEs are difficult or stressful events that happen before age 18 years. These early experiences can affect a person’s growth, health, emotions, relationships, and learning later in life. ACEs are never the person’s fault. By understanding ACEs, we can give care and support that is safe, calm, and helpful.
