When Words Finally Found Their Way: William’s Speech Therapy
It’s such a joy when families share how Early Intervention (EI) enriches their lives and empowers young children. Every story reminds us why these support matter. Every milestone—every new word, gesture, or spark of connection—shows us the strength and resilience within each child and family we support.
As a provider within the Ohio Statewide EI System, our mission is simple but powerful: to walk alongside families as they discover their child’s unique abilities, hopes, and needs. We support parents right where life happens—during playtime on the living‑room floor, at the kitchen table, or in the quiet moments when families wonder what tomorrow might bring.
In these everyday spaces, learning unfolds naturally. A child finds their confidence. A parent finds new tools, encouragement, and often, hope.
Read below to hear from William’s mom, Melissa, about how he broke down the wall that once hindered his communication …
“With the help of the Early Intervention services through the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities, our son William has made tremendous improvement with his speech over the last year. He is able to communicate his basic needs and wants, such as telling us foods that he likes to eat, toys that he likes to play with, and books that he likes to read. He can identify and tell you all his letters, numbers 1-10, most colors, and all the basic shapes- even hexagon and trapezoid!
Our Speech Therapist, Pallavi, did a fantastic job helping William and guiding our family by giving us a few specific skills to practice between visits, then followed up on William’s progress with those skills at the next visit. After only a year of EI services, William met his outcomes and no longer qualifies for speech therapy.
Lastly, thank you (Broadmoor School) for planning the various EI activities that we attended during the past year.
Williams’s story is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when families, children, and EI professionals, and County Board supports work together. To learn more about EI services or Broadmoor School programs, please visit www.lakebdd.org/childrens-services/.
