Providing a modified, functional curriculum and vocational training at our Lake Education and Employment Program (LEEP) is essential to increase independence, post-graduation options, and vocational possibilities. LEEP is available to Lake County students ages 14 – 22 years at Broadmoor School who are referred by a representative from their home school district.
LEEP is focused on empowering young adults to achieve academic, social, and pre-vocational success based on their individual preferences, interests, needs, and strengths. LEEP aims to provide students with a continuation of academic requirements, functional life-skill development, career exploration and soft skill training. There is also an emphasis on strengthening a student’s self-advocacy skills and increasing their level of independence, both within their school and greater communities. Given these experiences, along with various other enrichment opportunities, students are able to be active participants in the planning of their lives following graduation.
The LEEP unit is divided into three classes. Each class has up to eight students, as well as an instructor and an assistant.
- All LEEP classes have a combination of vocational training and academic curriculum development, as specified in their Individualized Plan (IP).
- There is a focus on the continuation of life skills development, interpersonal relationships, and exposure to appropriate adult service options.
All students will be provided many transferable and authentic opportunities for academic and personal growth. LEEP respects and encourages each student’s growth and progress on their own highly individualized path though the transition continuum.
