Broadmoor School Selected for National 9/11 Education Program

Our local community knows that the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood’s (LCBDD) Broadmoor School in Mentor is quite special. Now, it’s even more special as it was chosen as the first ever school partner in Ohio and the only Ohio school for this school year to participate in the Freedom Flag Foundation’s National Freedom Flag and World Trade Center Steel Education Program.

On September 13, 2021, Broadmoor School hosted a ceremony to celebrate this honor. Students participated in a parade and assembled a Freedom Flag puzzle (constructed by the Mentor Rotary). Dignitaries and school officials spoke and military representatives raised the Freedom Flag and presented wreaths. Tanisha Carlgren sang the National Anthem, Dolores Fratino from American Legion Auxiliary Unit #214 read the poem “We’re Still Standing” (written by Hannah Schoechert), and employee Shaun Gough played the bagpipes at the conclusion of the ceremony.

This auspicious event was such a wonderful display of community, and we’d like to share it with all of you via the video below.
