Broadmoor School Presents Prestigious Awards
At the last Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities / Deepwood’s Board meeting, Broadmoor School Principal Liz Miller announced the winners of two very important awards.
The Franklin B Walter Outstanding Educator Award
This award is named in the honor of the late Dr. Franklin B. Walker, Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1977-1991. His post was longer than any other state superintendent in Ohio’s history. With over 50 years of service as a teacher and administrator, Dr. Walter’s leadership is evident in many of Ohio’s quality educational initiatives and programs. Among these is the development of the nation’s first statewide plan for children who have disabilities.
Liz presented Amber Dubeansky with this prestigious award in recognition of her exceptional dedication and innovative approach to education. “Amber’s ability to connect with her students on a personal level, focusing on their strengths and interests, sets her apart as a remarkable educator. Through her tireless efforts, she has facilitated remarkable progress among numerous students, providing them with the necessary tools for success and celebrating every milestone along the way. Her calm demeanor, patience, and flexibility creates a nurturing environment where students feel valued and supported. Her commitment to student-centered learning is evident in her willingness to empower students to take the lead when necessary, fostering independence, and confidence. Amber’s innovative teaching strategies, coupled with her unwavering dedication to student growth, make her a true asset to our educational community.”
Raymond A. Horn Outstanding Achievement Award
Named in honor of the late Dr. Raymond A. Horn, Assistant Superintendent of Public Instruction Emeritus, this prestigious award recognizes a student’s remarkable performance. Acknowledged as a national leader in the field of special education, Dr. Horn devoted more than 60 years of service to improving the quality of life and learning for students who have disabilities. Dr. Horn left behind a legacy and a challenge to all to ensure that every student be given the respect and opportunities to which they are entitled.
Michael was presented this award in recognition of his exceptional growth and dedication to learning throughout the school year. “Michael’s unwavering positivity and enthusiasm are evident as he arrives at school each day with a smile, eager to contribute. His commitment to community shines through his enthusiastic engagement at four volunteer job sites, where he not only excels individually, but also selflessly supports his peers. In both academic and extracurricular pursuits, Michael emerges as a natural leader, offering guidance and assistance to his classmates with grace and empathy. As a key player on the Broadmoor Bobcats basketball team, his sportsmanship and teamwork are commendable. His selfless play, ensuring every teammate has an opportunity to shine, reflects his humility and dedication to collect success.”
