March DD Month Origins

Did you know that National Developmental Disabilities (DD) Awareness Month (in March) officially began in 1987 with a proclamation from President Reagan to help bring awareness and acceptance for people of every ability? Since then, families, self-advocates, advocacy groups and Ohio’s County Boards have been working to increase opportunities for people with disabilities. Follow our news and social media @DeepwoodLakeDD during March to see all the ways we engage side by side to advance our mission to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to engage in activities that enrich their lives and contribute to their community.
