Leslie Walker-Hirsch is an internationally recognized educational consultant who specializes in social and sexual development for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She is a dynamic and stimulating lecturer and is the co-creator of the widely used CIRCLES curriculum series. These multi-media teaching materials for improving social competence and judgment is designed especially to address the learning styles of youth and adults with cognitive disabilities.

Leslie will present concepts from the Circles Program for an hour and allow 15 minutes for questions. The Circles Program teaches social distance and levels of intimacy through the use of six color-coded concentric circles. Starting from the center circle, which represents the self, each new colored circle represents behaviors, feelings, and actions appropriate to the distance from the center of self. Circles was written by Leslie Walker-Hirsch ,Med, Marklyn Champagne, RN, MSW and James Stanfield, EDD.

The Lake County Advocacy Council is open to anyone who is eligible to receive services through the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood.
